Basketball Stats Assistant – Basket stats keeper - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, I do work professionally as a Software Engineer, more specifically as Android Technical Lead in a German Startup.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

The most challenging part was to go from providing an Android-only platform to also allowing iOS users to benefit from the basketball tracking system that I have created. This did not happen overnight, I had to learn how to code for the iOS platform alongside continue improving the Android app. I am an advocate of writing native apps and this project is a perfect example of when you need to create two native apps instead of a hybrid one. Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

I love Trello, not only for the many options that the app offers but also for its core functionality that helps me prioritize and organize myself in order to be as productive as I can get. Talking about creativity and taking notes, "Paper” is another one to have in mind, it lets you write down anything easily with a pencil.

How long have you been working on this app?

I have worked in the app seriously for a bit longer than 2 years. ( Part time only )

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

The main need is to allow users to track their team’s basketball stats and provide them with advanced statistics generated by business intelligence to analyze and improve their team performance.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

There are two main keys that make the app the best basketball stats tracking app in the market, the tracking system and the way the system allows you to analyze the statistics after the game and during the season.
The tracking system is based on dragging and dropping the basketball actions to the players/teams that are involved. Mixing the drag and drop system with the smart continuation dialogs, allows users to select the followed action that happens in the game easily. They are called smart dialogs cause they are really smart, there are only an amount of actions that can happen after each basketball action and they are all triggered to reduce the time it takes to track a live basketball game.
Analyzing the team stats that you are recording during the season is just beautifully designed and easily done with our charts and boxscore tables. The app not only provides basic stats, but you can also dive into advanced statistics, shooting zones, shots per quarter, and much more.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

The future plans for the app is to keep growing and expanding in different countries.
Regarding new features, you can find a few of the new ones coming this year:

• Ability to track 3vs3 games. 3vs3 is getting popular and we are working on supporting this new way of playing basketball on the streets.
• Best line ups - This feature will allow users to leverage the business intelligence built in to discover their best defensive five players, best offensive five, best rebounders five …
• Track shooting training sessions.
