ATTO Timesheets: Time & GPS Tracking for Employees - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

No. I have been part of the tech industry for quite some time now. My experience running a digital agency has helped me navigate the many challenges that we faced with Atto in its development process.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

The most challenging aspect of developing a mobile app is marketing. Defining a characteristic that will help you stand out among competitors, a certain value proposition that will help you position the product in the market. Atto is one of the few mobile-focused timesheet apps that measure workhours and reports them flawlessly for users to preview from anywhere and at any time.

We solve timesheets for small businesses. And we do so by providing intuitive and straightforward software that helps employees and managers focus on real work. Through automation, we’re here to give business owners more time to focus on the things that matter most.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

As an avid iOS user, I love using Sketch. It is probably one of the better design software in the market. The flexibility and degree of sophistication that Sketch offers for UI/UX design are unmatched. Most of our web and app designs are first designed on Sketch and then transferred to the development team. Another great tool is Slack and it’s tightly integrated communications platform that helps us stay coordinated across activities and departments. Lastly, an app worth mentioning is Trello and its project management capabilities. It is amazing to have a platform that employees can use to keep themselves organized.

How long have you been working on this app?

Atto was launched in 2016, however, it’s been in development for a few years before that. Since its first launch, Atto has greatly upgraded its offerings and we have focused on creating a beautifully integrated time tracking solution for our users. We are constantly working on delivering updates to the app based on the feedback received from users.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Let’s face it, there are hundreds of time tracking solutions that try to mimic one another. We didn’t want to be a traditional solution focused on a web app that employees could only use from their workstations. So, instead, we developed one of the first mobile solutions that would provide employees the flexibility they want. And, honestly, Atto isn’t designed as an app for everyone.

The app is best utilized when managing a team of remote workers who need their work hours measured across different job sites. The integrated location tracking solution allows business owners to explore great metrics that could potentially save them time and money.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

We take great pride in our mobile application and it’s definitely one of the assets that differentiate us from the competitors. The app works really well for companies that deal with remote workers. For certain jobs, carrying a laptop for time tracking purposes is not viable. For example, in construction and landscaping, site crew already have heavy equipment to carry, why should they take the laptop too? Well with Atto, all you need is a mobile device – which inevitably you will have to carry with you. The features are designed to measure productivity to the very last second.

With Atto, business owners can track work hours, manage breaks and analyze the performance of each employee. Additionally, they can learn a lot about their operations, determine profitable/unprofitable clients and much more. Imagination is the only boundary to how one can use the features that exist within our mobile time clock.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We are regularly working to improve our app based on the user’s feedback. We have recently introduced three (3) new languages to accommodate users across the world. And we plan to push new features and integrations on Atto within the year.
