AR Trophy - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

'AR Trophy' was created by 'GEO-PAK ApS', a company that develops a variety of high-tech applications, using GPS and collaboration to enhance outdoor adventures. Our other apps use real-time GPS and tracking, whereas 'AR Trophy' allows for augmented reality to join with virtual imaging to create a fun, interactive app for people of all ages with various hobbies.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

We encountered some obstacles when incorporating the 3D models/animation into the Android platform, as well as creating a higher quality of photos and videos for our users. Also, as we are available internationally, we have been challenged with localizing the available animals by demographic. For example, we were missing the North American Elk in our bundle, but we knew that this animal is a big part of the North American wildlife, so we created one for our North American users.

'GEO-PAK ApS' is a Danish based company which provides software products and services all around the world. The company is founded in 2010. 'GEO-PAK' family of apps combine instruments for high-tech collaboration to help you experience an ultimate outdoor adventure with your friends and family.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

First, we really enjoy each of the 'GEO-PAK' apps, especially because of the GPS capabilities, safety features, and the importance of being able to collaborate when adventuring outdoors, like skiing or hunting. There are also many simulator /virtual reality apps available that help one fly airplanes, ride roller coasters, skydive, and even walk on the moon. We enjoy these simulator games because, like for most people, it's fun to imagine and experience things that are not part of our daily routine.

How long have you been working on this app?

One month.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

We wanted to bring a cheaper, more entertainment-focused app into our family of outdoor adventure apps. It is also important to us to expand our technology beyond hunters and skiers. Our other apps are more technical, and appeal more to serious adventures. Whereas, this app uses augmented reality to provide a bright and informal way to interact with friends and family, and escape into a virtual reality world, for even just a minute.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

We use the newest technology available to ensure we are providing the highest quality app to our users. We noticed a void in the market for nature-based simulation that catered to the masses. We then decided to combine nature with these high quality models of animals to create photos and videos that look real. This allows hunters to more easily relate to the app, but doesn't discourage non-hunters to enjoy the product and features just as much!

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

There are now two versions of the app - paid and free. We are working on a new version that includes packs with 3D models, such as animals, zombies, dinosaurs, and cartoon characters. We would also like to offer new animations where the objects will move within the territory, and you can also add various modes to one scene. We use gamification technology to encourage unique engagement by our users, and our longer term plans actually include creating a video game within the app that will use augmented reality technology to simulate hunting scenes for our users. Throughout all of this, we will continue to develop and update our app based on the various updates of the operating platforms on which we are hosted.

Download the app and have some fun with it. Our other apps are more technical, provide more detail, and benefit the user when used over a longer period of time. This app is meant to give users a fun, relaxed approach to adventure. The interactive, easy-to-use platform provides entertainment for the whole family. We have been using AR technology for a long time with our other apps, but we are excited to bring it to users in a different way, promoting relaxing, casual entertainment.
