Alive With Me - Interview with the developer of a fantastic app

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Yes, I'm a trained software engineer. I got a Master's degree in Computer Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and I've been working for different software companies for several years.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

The most difficult thing when making an app is deciding what's enough for the first release. There are many features I wanted to add, but speed to market is more important.

Allen is a software engineer from LA who writes apps in his spare time. He is also an avid reader, plays ukulele, and likes to run for exercise.

Name a few of your favorite apps and reason you love them.

I'm a big fan of apps that fulfill a simple purpose well. The Google messages app is a nice clean design that lets you focus on your contacts. Slack is also great to communicate for work. My favorite is Timely, the alarm clock app with stunning visual design. It does its job simply and elegantly.

How long have you been working on this app?

Just over a month now.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

"I have one goal for this app - make users happy without wasting their time. The app encourages happiness with it's color scheme, design, marketing, and moderation. It's extremely effective. At the same time, too much smartphone use can leave you unfulfilled, especially after hours and hours. Humans need happiness and they need it in strong bursts. This app provides that."

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

I wrote this app as a response to another one called Die With Me. The exclusive chat room was a good idea, but the app promotes negativity and celebrates death. Alive With Me is a positive spin on the concept made to promote positivity and celebrate life.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

The next version of the app will add push notifications and tagging, so users can easily address each other specifically and never miss a message. After that, I'll add support for adding emoji reactions to messages and for friend requests, so positive connections can continue between chat sessions.
