I have many years of programming experience but had not developed an app before.
We wanted to help as many people as possible learn languages and over 6000 languages are spoken in the world. It was challenging to decide which languages to include and to find professional native speakers to help with the content for some of the languages. We finally included combinations in more than 50 languages that could address the language learning needs of approximately 70% of the world’s population.
We were aiming for users who are native speakers of over 50 languages. No one in the team knew all the languages, so it was challenging to ensure that the language used in the user interface was accurate and not a machine translation.
I mainly use news and weather apps on a daily basis, I enjoy constant news updates. Threema to stay in touch with friends and family, and I also use chess games.
We began working on the app in 2011. We have continuously worked to add new languages and upload new versions with many new features over the years.
We wanted to create an app that will help users learn a language for free, easily, with audio and text, and without the anxiety of learning grammar. Second, when we developed this app, there were not many opportunities for learners who wanted to learn less popular languages, and we wanted to fulfill that need. Based on many years of experience creating language learning materials, I was familiar with the challenges that language learners face and the types of content and activities that can help them.
Many apps require users to subscribe monthly after an initial period of use. Our app is completely free for use with ads, or users can pay a small one-time fee to use it without ads. We are proud of the fact that we not only offer so many different languages but that we offer 3540 language combinations for native speakers of 60 languages. Based on their native language, users can choose any language combination (e.g. Korean-Hindi or Czech-Brazilian Portuguese), they have many different options to download and learn with the audio, and they can practice using the many features.
We are currently working on including options for users to learn directly from native speakers.
Spread the word about this free app that offers so many different language combinations and options for users.
